Arriving early to a job interview is extremely important. BUT you should not show up too early.
Showing up too early and sitting in the parking lot or waiting room for 30 minutes will most likely reflect negatively on you. But showing up right on time about a minute before the interview starts is not the best either.
Showing up about 5 to 10 minutes early and letting the receptionist know you are here for your interview is wise.
What if you don’t know how long it takes to get there?
- Use the internet to check directions. On google or mapquest you see how long it takes to get somewhere. Add 10 minutes on to that time and you should be good to go. Remember to account for traffic.
- Go drive the route a few days before the interview. This will give you a good idea of how much time you need to give yourself.
If you are worried about timing it right… drive down to within a mile of your interview about an hour early. Find the building and where you can park. Now go find a Starbucks or other coffee shop and hang out there for the next 45 minutes or so.
This will give you time to prepare for the interview right before you step foot inside.
If you cannot find a good coffee shop just park your car in a parking lot and listen to some music or prepare for the interview inside your car.
